This is the best picture I could get with my cheesy camera... But these lines are all totally straight and I cant tell if they are embossed or recessed but it doesn't look like postmint damage... are these diecracks? if so, does that mean its a specific VAM?

1898-S ...Obverse looks normal so I didnt take a pic

    Thanks!

the 'scratches' seem to stay under most of the letters... so no way theres this many die cracks on a 1898-S?

in some areas it almost looks like lamination

the D in "Dollar" for example, the line goes through the middle of the D, but doesn't cut through the letters itsself

other than this fact^ I think I could get a similar look with a razerblade and a hammer...

I'm just really curious as what this could be!

    Thanks for your input

How does a line go through the middle of the D without slashing through the letter its self?

One way I can think of is that it circulated after the cuts were made and got worn off.
