Saw someone on instagram bought it. Looked fake to me at first, but then he sent better pics. Other opinions? @ToughCOINS

The last pictures are the ones that scream fake to me.

It appears that there are die gouges on her cheek and in the field in front of her neck. Also, the area on her shoulder at the back of her neck looks a bit wonky.

The obverse looks weird, can you ask for better photos? I can't tell if there is a dip by the 1 in the date. If there isn't, it is a fake.

It doesn't look like there is. Plus, there is a weird line under the B in Liberty, and a weird hump coming out of the lower left of the bust. The whole coin looks off to me. Plus you can see denticles on the obverse rim when viewed straight on, which you can't on genuine ones.

I also don't see a dip by the first star on the right side. I am confident this is a fake.

Do you collect these, or what is your reason for it looking good?

Interesting theory, but can you independently verify/confirm this little tidbit is, in fact, a reliable and absolute indicator?

I haven't seen a genuine one without the dip.

I see those 2 dips. Thanks for the education.

I looked through the first 35 or so, and they all had it. This along with the overall "off" look to it is a pretty good indication to me.

You say "it" as if all are identical; they're not.

Are there dates in the $2.50 gold Liberty series that do not have these dips?

While the dips on the PCGS coins aren't exactly identical, they all slope down then slope up. On the OP's coin the dip slopes down but then it levels out and never slopes back up.

I don't know too much about the diagnostics of this series, but I agree, that looks fake from across the room.

WHERE IS MY POST? The coin is a crude fake! I was the third poster.

:facepalm: Never mind. The OP put the same fake on CU.

PS Never heard of the "dip" thing. :jawdrop:

I'm sure there is a technical term for the dip, but every 1907 2.5 Dollar Coin that I have seen has it under the 1.
