I'll take a butt ugly 60 over a gorgeous 58 any day of the week if we're talking 1884s morgan, or the like
The TPG's don't seem to use the MS-60 grade often. For me it fills a hole between AU-58 and MS-61. I've got two of them.
Bingo MS60PL http://www.1881o.com/08117637_60pl_08.html AU58 http://www.1881o.com/82490314_58_14.html AU58 http://www.1881o.com/33582021_58_53.html
I'd take the 58. It'd be cheaper, it looks nicer, and in a few years with a couple more submission attempts you could probably get it to come back in a 63 holder.
Almost all of those slabs seem to have a few years on them. It's not too much of a stretch to suggest none would be 60's today if resubmitted. Some might be lower, but most higher.
I think all that @jwitten has done there is prove the quality of his eye for coins, rather than offering anything either way about MS60's.
Yeah.... , unless he grabbed most of it in 2011, but I see no sign of that. I HAVE SEEN auction sheets with roll after roll of 2011 ASE's, though, and that tells me a bowlful about a lot of coin people.
