Hi everyone Im new, my name is Jessica and Im new to coin collecting. I have recently found a 1975 no s Dime. I did a little research on the difference between a proof and a mint. (I hope thats right) I believe my coin is not a proof but could you help me confirm my thoughts on this as I've attached a couple photos. I can tell its been pretty circulated. Im new so Im trying to learn differences right now and what to look for. Thanks everyone!
I would appear to be a regular Philadelphia dime (no mint mark). Proofs have a mirror like finish and square edges. I have found circulated proof before and you can still see traces of the mirror like finish. So, unless I'm missing something, it's a regular old philly dime.
Thank you! Thats what I figured as well. The mirror like image would probably still be visible around or inside the letters like the 'O's.
Welcome Jezzica0906 to CT. As stated a Philadelphia issued business strike. Look at enough coins and a proof will be found sometime in circulation.
Another newbie's here What's your opinion of this one? It's gathered my attention because of no S (obviously) and it looks kinda shiny for a 42 yo coin.
Welcome to CT. Your coin looks like it went through the wash and looks shiny, but it is a standard business strike coin. Business strikes are coins intended for circulation, a proof coin is meant for collectors and have a very distinct looks. This is a modern proof, but it would give you a better idea of what a proof coin should look like.
