Already I am being accused to artificially toning a coin.

I don't even have the slightest clue how to do that.

I've provided the refund already, what more is there??

Wow ... what I missed today .. whew.

I have a question about the forum rules in the open forum auction posting section somewhat related to this topic or the other one where the seller stated he was sorry for selling coins incorrectly, he wasn't well educated about the coins, etc.

And we see that a lot from sellers on ebay.

My 'question' or curiosity is the members allowed to post ads in the open forum ~ who's ads at ebay read the same misinformed innocence. "Uh, I was dumping these silver dollars in a coinstar and someone told me they may be valuable... what do you think'.

So not knowing all the rules as I dont post there I was wondering ~ do the Coin Talk Moderators read the ads, follow up on the sales, and possibly remove those that seem .. well... to slide into the 'scam' category?

I just wondered because it seems to be able to post your items for sale via the Coin Talk forum links, you should know what you're doing. Ask for help first. Ask for validation, information, etc.

Just a thought. There's so much support and information in the rest of the forum it's as if that section is validated by the rest but several of the ads posted are likely fodder for future Coin Talk postings 'hey, have you seen this one?'

Ok.. going to take my meds now. Thanks.

Fair questions - any CT member who has 10 post or more in other sections of Coin Talk can post in the Open Forum and/or the Auction Forum.

The premise of that is that we don't allow SPAM, nor do we wish to provide a free place for sellers to just sell. So if a member is willing to stick around long enough and participate in the forum, then likely, hopefully at least, they are not trying to scam anybody.

Do we follow up every link and read and then try to judge whether it is a scam or not ? No, we don't. And to be honest I don't think that we need to. Most of the members here are good honest folks - we hope - and it's not our place to judge them. We get enough flack for trying to enforce the simple rules we have. Besides, if a CT member actually tried to scam others - how long do you think it would be before they were run out of Dodge ?

But I do read both the Open Forum and the Auction Forum every single day and have since the first day the existed. I do that to enforce the rules - 1 post every 7 days. And to the best of my knowledge I've never missed a single one.

    GDJMSP,
Respectfully, my apologies for being so passionate about this subject tonight.
All in all the coin crowd is a great place with great people doing great things. Every now and then, something " smells funny " and gets noticed.
There were posts on the Ebay seller KingOCoins long before I came here.

IF what happened and today is that a buyer, a newbie with alot of $$$ ( the most vunerable ) who was ripped off and was able to get a refund of over $1000 from a seller with questionable " knowledge " and " experience", then the hobby, this blog, and a cpl of young behind the scenes researchers did a great job.

Perhaps this is not the place to "publicly" reprimand those who in " our opinion" are detrimental to the growth of this hobby.

My sincere apologies to the blog as a whole, and in particular to anybody I have offended. All in all, a good long sore spot burst wide open and some wrongs were righted. For that I am not sorry.

    Jack

Edit: I actually stopped work tonight to get this out.

No problem Jack and no reason to appologize. But I have seen threads like this degenerate into an something like a free-for-all for 4 year olds.

You guys should all know that you can pretty much discuss almost anything as long as you stay within the rules and treat everyone with respect. And that includes king-o-coins.

Whether yo ulike the guy or not or what he does on ebay does not enter into it. He will be treated with repsect. You can voice your objections and/or dislikes and still do that. An he can answer them. Yeah, it requires a bit of effort to control your emotions. But that's all it requires.

And that's why I said what I did when I did. It was not directed at you personally - I tried to make that clear.

    Yep.

But it might not be for many years down the line when they try to sell and gets The Bad News.

Or if it passes to their heirs who might not know enough to be disappointed.

Either way, the perp gets off scot-free.
