A relatively quick turnaround for my modern world coin submission this time - NGC had them in house for less than a week (my older submission will take a bit longer, but that's due to the 1933/2 variety I submitted with it.) Anyway...grades posted today and I thought I'd hold a GTG for this one (most of the rest are proofs/matte proofs, which are pretty much going to be one of a couple grades anyway and extremely difficult to grade from images, so no point there.) Here she is...my favorite 1968 25 Pesos with rainbow toning on both sides. Submit your grade guess above and, if you feel like it, take a stab at what you think it's worth on the open market. (I'm not selling any time soon, just thought it would be fun to add another dimension as no price guide will tell me what a coin with this color will go for.) Images taken quite some time ago, will get some new images once it gets back from NGC: Good luck! Will post results tomorrow afternoon.
My second impression is that my first impression might've been a tad conservative. I wouldn't be surprised if I was too low. I would if I was too high or it went "details".
I'm not sure if it's my eye's and I'm just misreading the images. But it looks to have high point wear. I would be at AU55 to AU58 on it. If I am misreading it, and there is no wear, I would put it at MS64.
You both are echoing my thoughts prior to submission. Like I said in @lordmarcovan's coin uno thread, I submitted it for fun and just to see what it would grade.
I have heard tales of these actually coming over the border in the SW when Mexicans would shop and buy gas. Americans would take them because they were silver and nearly silver dollar sized.
That's an interesting theory. I have noticed that these arrive locally in bunches - nothing for six months, then a huge pile of them show up at all the LCS. I've certainly handled my fair share of them - only kept a few. Four, to be exact. Here are the other two blast white examples (the fourth, another toner, has been imaged, but I can't seem to find the file at the moment):
Time has come to reveal the answer - most everyone has put this coin in the MS63-64 range...NGC thought a bit more highly of it (NGC's photo, will take my own when it gets back home): @lordmarcovan - seems like your suspicions were correct. Thanks for playing!
While I'm a tad late, I guessed 65 with a shot at 66 if the luster is strong. I don't really see any major contact marks, and the toning adds great eye appeal. Congrats on the grade!
Wow, what then is going on with the warrior's face, head and chest (best seen on the blowup)? The two legs, the hand to our right? I wish to God they graded like that when I submitted!
