Cool OP-examples, Roman Collector ... sadly, I don't have an example to flaunt (man, I need more coins!)
Nice examples you have there, Roman Collector I have a few - this is the first one which comes to mind. Nerva Sestertius: Libertas standing left, holding pileus and scepter
Nice silvering on that Aurelian ant in the OP, and I like the round flan and surfaces and die break on the SevAlex sestertius. Here's a Claudius LIBERTAS As similar to @Sallent's. Galba LIBERTAS sestertius. A bit porous, but a big, fat sestertius of a Civil War emperor for only 300 bucks sounded good to me. Edit: @Eduard was posting that Nerva while I was typing my post. Awesome coin!
Three great Libertas coins Roman Collector, all with wonderful detail. I have a Claudius As also with good detail unfortunately a very thick patina hides a lot of it.
My sincere apologies - it was not my intention But rest assured, that is one coin for which I really overpaid.
Something that directly derives from the pileus is the liberty cap in use during the french revolution : Convention - Sol aux balances 1793 AA Atelier de Metz (AA) refrappe REPUBLIQUE FRANCOISE, la table de la loi, avec gravé LES HOMMES SONT EGAUX DEVANT LA LOI en cinq lignes, de part et d'autre une grappe de raisin et des epis de blé, a l'exergue L'AN II LIBERTE EGALITE, balance surmontée d'un bonnet phrygien, entourée d'une couronne de chêne, au centre I . Lovely 1st century bronzes! I love the way the drapery on Libertas is so carefully rendered on the sestertii! The golden age of Roman engraving!
