I started roll hunting out of boredom about 3 years ago. Bought several rolls of half dollar pieces back then and then moved to the big city and forgot about them. Opened them a few days ago and found what appears to be a 1965 Kennedy Silver half.

How do I tell? Are postal scales OK for weighing? Here are a few pics. Let me know what you think. DSC_0043.JPG DSC_0044.JPG DSC_0043.JPG

Welcome to C.T. Yes, you have a 1965 40% silver Kennedy half dollar. I cannot speak to the authenticity from this tiny screen. Someone else should chime in soon.

It looks like a normal clad silver half. Can you take an image of the edge?

My photography skills are seriously lacking but here is it next to another Kennedy. DSC_0058.JPG DSC_0059.JPG

It would be surprising if it wasn't silver - all Kennedys from 1965-1970 are 40% silver. They were constructed as clad coins, with the inner core being 80/20 copper/silver and the outer cladding being 80/20 silver/copper. Just under .15oz of silver in each.

A 90% silver planchet should weigh 12.50 gms and normal 1965 40% silver weighs 11.50 gms. It isn't unusual for the 40% coins to look like it is a solid 90%. Looks like a 40% to me, but weighing will settle any questions
