Hi, I recently purchased these nickels, I was just wondering about their authenticity. Thanks, Peter Z
These 2 are very rare dates. You want to be sure they are authentic before buying. Most of the shields that are available have more wear, and the mintage is much higher. 1866,1867,1868 and 1869 are the most common. You can get lucky, I pulled an 1866 with rays and an 1867 with rays out of junk boxes.
About as fake as fake can be..... not even close to being legit. Every thing is incorrect reverse and star placement on the years in question . Letters ,digits , everything sez fake.
Both are fake. On the 1879, you can see where they changed the date of the die by scrubbing the old one off.
Hope you didn't pay much for them because like all the others have said these are fakes and not very good ones.
Typical best practices of coin buying include wondering about authenticity before purchasing. I hope you can get a refund.
