Yah, I managed to score this humble, yet sweet rarity ... I have one of these! A pleasant surprise from my uncleaned lot days! I think this cat is my highest "ric rarity" coin.
You guys should fight over these high end items. That coin came to me in 1997 from a retired Army LTG/coin dealer/friend of mine. We still correspond but he does not sell low end coins anymore. I decided I did not need a Delmatius from every mint so......
i've got some coins here that look just like that.. one day i'm going to post them one @ a time and have a "name the coin" thread..but for now here's my garden variety
Delmatius, as shown on this coin, is also spelled Dalmatius on some issues like this from Thessalonika. His cousins made sure he did not last long enough for details like spelling to make any difference.
I like these as well. Delmatius Mint: Siscia 337 AD AE 3 Obvs: FL DELMATIVS NOB C, Bust laureate draped cuirass right. Revs: GLORIA EXERCITVS, Standard between two soldiers. BSIS* 17x18mm, 1.60g
Delmatius A.D. 335-7 15x16mm 1.7gm FL DELMA-TIVS NOB C; laureate and cuirassed bust. GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS; Two soldiers helmeted, stg. facing one another, reversed spear in outer hands, inner hands on shields resting on the ground; between them one standard. In ex. SMANI RIC VII Antioch 112
Nice score, with a pedigree that can't be beat! I have a Delmatius lurking somewhere, but no pics of it. I was ready to put up a fight for the Doug Smith coin I wanted, but I managed to score it for opening price . I'm very pleased with the win, and it'll be keeping other Sep Sev river god provincial company.
The only one I have: Delmatius, AD 335-337 AE, AE4, 16mm, 1.78g; 5h; Heraclea Obv.: FL DELMATIVS NOB CAES; laureate, draped, cuirassed bust right Rev.: GLOR-IAEXERC-ITVS; two soldiers holding spears and shields with one standard between them with dot on banner In Ex.: SMHΓ
that is a neat coin stevers, and all the coins here are kool! i wasn't even aware of a fella named Delmatius till this thread. thanks for posting. one can learn more here by accident than most do elsewhere on purpose.
Wow, those are awesome thread-additions, gang!! I am very surprised that so many of you coiners had an example of this fella! (yup, another great showing from a very cool coin-crew!) Awwww crap!! ... Pittsburgh just knocked-out Ottawa in the double-overtime period!! (congrats) So apparently it's gonna be a ... => Pittsburgh versus Nashville Stanley Cup Finals!! ... oh sorry, that's "Hockey"
