Alright my fellow coin Hunters I haven't ran across this one so what should I put this one down as and the books I've got I haven't found anything on this particular coin or anything like this and I did research on the internet before I came to you and I didn't find anything like this would appreciate any comments or thoughts on this particular one this one should be an easy one for you experts I'm sure you've seen this 100 times
That damaged error occurred at the time of the making is that correct that's what it appeared to me to be
Really see I would have thought the opposite because it look like the one was never there see how close it is to the vest
Yeah I got my 25 x out and went back over it after your last text and I can see what you're saying hey I really appreciate it see I learned something new today
Keep in mind that copper is relatively easy to move around if the coin is hit by another object. You can also see that metal was pushed up along the upper edge of the mark. You would never see this in normal production. Chris
That's a interesting cent, the top of Lincolns hair caught my eye, it looks like the bottom of over size columns
I didn't even catch any of that I was too busy worried about the damage on the front I didn't even see that so what's your thoughts on it
I'm a little hesitant to say; in the past I've been buried for giving my opinion But I have a thick skin. I think it appears to be raised, there is also what appears to be doubling on the west side of the cameo or more to the point "his back", my first thought was a strike through related to the bottom of a column in Lincolns hair but it doesn't line up or have the same dimensions of a cents column but given the pressure and heat created when metal is moved during the strike it "could" potentially rotate the coin. ?.I've typed myself into a corner. Environmental damage after mint; given the age anything is possible But I think it might be a incomplete double strike? ????
Oldman4; I have read your posts on this site hundreds of times, you know alot and you don't hold back. What's your opinion, its your dojo, my cup is empty.
Well as far as the columns they appeared to be a little wide like you mentioned that I seem to find those on a lot of the older pennies seems like I find them more on the sixties and seventies as far as the hairline goes you got me on that one I mean it looks like it's got alot of wear but below the hairline there's an indention in there that I normally don't see on those pennys But there again I'm knew that's the reason I come to you experts and I've learned a lot from coin talk I maybe not always agree with what I hear but it gives me different opinions and thoughts so then I take more time and look at that coin
I can't tell, but since you have the coin, can you examine the area under higher magnification? If you see any indication of raised metal along the edges of the anomaly, I'm guessing that it may be another instance of damage. @Ericred There is nothing wrong with making a guess as long as you make it known that it is just a guess. At least you are making an attempt to stir up your brain cells every once in a while. Sometimes people pose their guesses as though they know what they are talking about, and that can be very misleading for others who are trying to learn. Chris
I forgot about this coin I had and we was talking about the hairline on the 1970 take a look at this when it see what you think
