Breens Encyclopedia lists several types of edge devices for 1797, but the only one usually photographed is the Gripped edge device. I would like to gather photos of the various edge devices if possible. 1. Gripped Edge 2. Beaded Edge 3. Plain Edge Boulton Blanks 4. Plain Edge Coltman Blanks 5. Partly Reeded Edge The edge devices continued into 1798 4. Plain Edge Coltman Blanks 5. Partly Reeded Edge 6. Second Beaded Edge 7. Double Flanged Edge 8. Single Flanged Edge
I've got a 1798 Large Cent but imaging the edge is not really possible. It's slabbed and will remain so.
Edge 1. I suppose the NC-1 should constitute another edge since it is only referred to as a 1796 edge, but neither edge 1 or 2 in Breen's opinion.
