    Hi All,

So I have decided to give away the following coin. The only restriction I have is that the winner will be a first time winner. If you have won anything on one of these giveaway threads on Cointalk in the last year, please let someone else be the next recipient. Other wise all are free to enter the contest. The name of the winner will be drawn tomorrow night around 8pm EST. the coin is currently held by JA who will mail out the coin to the winner. The description of the coin was written by JA and is used with permission. I will post the name of the winner tomorrow night.

Tiberius Caesar Divi Augusti Fīlius Augustus was the son of Tiberius Claudius Nero and Livia Drusilla. When his mother divorced Nero and married Octavian, Tiberius Junior became the stepson of Caesar Augustus, and eventually the second Roman emperor. This is a very scarce denarius which commemorates his German triumph of 13 BC over the Chatti and Chequsci - the same type struck for him as Caesar under Augustus. The coin has circulation wear, as you can see, but it’s much brighter in hand - I had to increase the contrast to show the details. This is an excellent “budget” example of a rare and historically important coin.

    Tiberius, AD 14-37
    AR denarius, 18mm, 3.3g, 12h; Lugdunum, AD 14-15
Obv.: TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS; Laureate head right.
Rev.: TR POT XVI; Tiberius in quadriga right, holding laurel-branch and eagle-tipped scepter // IMP VII
    Reference: RIC I 2
    From the Orfew Collection

I was thinking the same thing! Wow, what a freebie!! Much better than a 'Tribute Penny'.

Very generous of you. I just threw my name into the hat on the other giveaway thread, so I am going to pass right now (doesn't feel right to be in two contests at the same time) cool coin though!

Holy smokes that's a coin. I'm ineligible, as I won Doug's Julian II Securitas Bull not too long ago, which I still handle regularly and which is still doing well, but good luck to all who enter!

How do I enter to win this great looking coin? It would be a nice piece for my now very small collection. I have had to down-size my collection for various reasons. This would be a nice keeper coin. Please let me know.

Hi you have already done it. You just had to say that you want to be entered. Consider yourself entered

i would say this coin IS better, but the "tribute penny" ain't nuffin to sneeze at. i just saw JA sell one for about $600.00.

A remarkably generous giveaway, but we should not fall into the trap of comparing this type to the "Tribute Pennies." They are very different coins from very different periods of Tiberius' rule, apples and oranges.

True. But I like Tiberius' non-'Tribute Penny' reverse types much more. Just like I prize a non-Minerva Domitian.
