anyone ever dream of going back in time to get coins?

Heck, I would of spent some of those 1916-D dimes on some of that dirt that was to become Scottsdale Arizona, Yeee Hawwww lol. Wonder what went up more? Serious, you bet....the coin !!

I dream and think about it all the time.
In fact, I have to perfect spot to hide them so that I can dig them up in today's time.

 

All of this speculating is great except for the flaws. For instance where would you get $5,000 in currency spendable for the time you went back. You'ld have to buy it and it would cost much, much more. The further you go back in time, the more difficult it would be to find money to spend at that time. Now if back in the 1700's you would also have to invest in clothing for that period or be branded as a witch and burned at a stake. Also, remember if you go back far enough, no doctors, medicines, pharmacies and no washrooms with running water,etc. Was there cold beer? Then there is the language problem. You would speak oddly from others. Then remember no coin stores, coin shows, coin books so where would you get what you needed? I'm going soon so I'll let you all know.

 

Bring silver bullion. You used to be able to bring bullion directly to the US Mint and exchange it for coin.

 

one word, Commodities research the time that you intend to visit and find out what is worth its weight in gold but today is purchased for pennies. For example alcohol in the western days and roaring 20's, aluminum at the turn of the century or spices for the European coins. As for the medicine, doctors, food and water just come back to the present. The hard part is having to stash your collections’ in a safe manner because you can’t bring that back with you because they would be deemed fakes due to no aging effects.

Again some problems. The commodities you would want to take back from now. If you took Aluminum, for instance, that Aluminum would have already existed back then only in possible a different form. So now you are attempting to have the same thing in the same place at the same time. The alcohold in the 20's would get you in trouble with Al Capone. Anyway, just how much could you take back? :goofer:

Sure they had aluminum back then but at such small quantities that it was worth more than gold, (research) and I am sure Al Capone would have loved to get the alcohol at a discount however these were just examples and seeing how this is a fantasy I would surmise you could take as much as you want. There are endless possibilities, knowing the stocks, go to Sutter’s Fort before any one else was there, the imagination is the only limit.
There are other problems as you stated earlier getting killed by the natives, contracting a long since dead virus or infecting the population with something from the 21st century. All of these things one would have to consider before traveling through time.

Guess I stated the question wrong. What silver coins would they give you? Morgans? Peace Dollars? If they'ver still got silver dollars stashed in their vaults, a silver bullion exchange for silver dollars that should be in uncirculated condition would be a good exchange to make.

 

I've thought about this very hard now and I think the only thing to do is go back, find a Gold area, pan for Gold, bury it somewhere where you can find it today and POOF, your rich. I'm going to try that.
