Hey ... I saw what you did there Ummm, go buy yourself a Mag-Max, my coin-friend ... => it's Victoria Day long weekend!!
Nice coin my Canadian amigo. This may take awhile for me to post all my namesakes' coins, give me a few
This coin was struck in the 18 month period of time that Magnus Maximus occupied Milan and the entire Western Roman Empire. Magnus Maximus AR Siliqua 387-388 CE 1.84 Grams Mediolanum mint Rare Certainly one of the best portraits of Magnus Maximus I've ever seen. Magnus Maximus, 383-388 Siliqua Treveri circa 383-388, AR 18.5mm., 1.84g. D NMAG MAXIMVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust r. Rev. VIRTVS ROMANORVM Roma enthroned facing, head l., holding globe and spear; in exergue, TRPS. RIC 84b. C20. MAGNUS MAXIMUS AR Siliqua, ca.383-8AD, ca.16mm, ca.2.0g. D N MAG MAX-IMVS P F AVG, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / VIRTVS ROMANORVM, Roma enthroned facing, head left, holding globe & spear. TRPS = Trier RIC84b, RSC20a Magnus Maximus AR Siliqua Trier mint Struck early in Maximus's reign, most likely 384. 2.05 Grams And an obverse die match. Magnus Maximus AR Siliqua Obverse die match with above coin. Struck at Trier probably before the above coin. Still have a few more coins but this will due for now.
don't have MM or a siliqua...they are both VERY HIGH on my list. i'd love to cross two thing of the list with the same coin...one like your would be perfect stevex! sweet flow lines also!
I have one but it's not nearly as showy as yours MAGNUS MAXIMUS AE2 OBVERSE: D N MAG MAXI-MVS PF AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right REVERSE: REPARATIO-REIPVB, Emperor standing facing, head left, holding Victory on globe in left hand and raising kneeling woman, turreted headdress. P or D in right field. LVGP in ex. Struck at Lugdunum 383-88 AD 4.6g, 23mm RIC 32
That's an excellent Mag Max siliqua, Steve... quite jealous! My little campgate... still one of my favorite coins. I even love this junky old AE2... it's got a bit of the old black magic to it .
Happy Victoria Day, @stevex6! Too bad about that last Sens game. Surely everyone on here, whether Canadian or American, should be cheering for the Senators?!? Their logo even looks like a coin! At least you have your sweet CNG wins as a balm for the sting. Mag Max and son:
Thanks, Sev-Alex (Happy Victoria Day) Yah, that was ugly ... 7-0 ... they rag-dolled the poor Senators! Oh well, now they're on the ropes (let's see what they're made of) => ya gotta love playoffs, eh?
