Emperor: Nero year: 64 city: Rome 23mm/6.77g OBV; NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG PM TR P IMP. Radiaus Burst right REV GENIO AVGVSTI. Genius standing left/sacrifing from patera over altar & holding cornucopiae. S>C across fields.
Nice looking coin! Is the size and weight correct?... it seems a little small and light for the period, but at the same time have almost all details on the flan. Off the top of my head I would think 26-28mm and 9-12g the correct range for a Nero as. I don't think this is a common issue, did they grow smaller and lighter toward the latter half of his reign?
It is indeed a very nice coin. These coins tend to be quite small -- I have one myself: NERO AE As (7.56 g.) Rome circa 64 A.D. RIC 215 NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P Radiate head of Nero right. Rev. GENIO AVGVSTI Genius naked to waist standing left, holding cornucopia, patera over lighted altar, I in exergue
To answer your question, zumbly, this rough Victory As of Nero was minted in 66 AD its 9,15 gram and 26mm. Why both GENIO AUGUSTI are underweight and smaller , no idear , but both are beautifull coins, congrats ro1974
