To give it to you straight: yes, you're wasting your time. It wouldn't at all surprise me if someone pops up here claiming differently, but the fact is that even if it became legal to melt cents, due to their alloy form, no refiner is going to pay anywhere remotely close to what is so often claimed. The prices for copper you see is for grade A, not alloys, and there's a big difference believe it or not. Please understand there are people making money off misinformation. There are websites and eBay schmoes hawking them as "investments", playing off coinflation-type sites that don't tell the whole story, and while there may be money to be made, but it's not those buying or saving them that's making it. Perhaps something will change down the road, but the likelihood of you ever making enough to have made this all worthwhile is slim to none.

Perhaps this gentleman - @cpm9ball - would be so kind as to share his insight on the matter.

Hi I have a 1957 Nickel and on the back, in the words "five cents" the "e" in "five" and the "cen" in "cents" are not really there.. You can see a vague shadow of them but they are clearly not there.. Is this and error or just overtime wear?

Wow you guys are special here. I used to be into it (collecting) and got away from that to take up Sports (what a trade, huh!). But now I have been back few years. First I see a forum like this.
I have one friend here in CT., Muhammad-Hussein..who is a coin collector as I am. I just purchased about $8.00 (straight) worth of Jefferson Nickels from him for.40 each (1970 and older are my value range coins.......)
I am expert in 2 1/2 fields and COINS isn't one of them but...lately I have been spending all my free time bringing my collection together. Will deal with any coins but mostly I work on bulk/low end coins pennies and nickels mostly.
I collect olden quarters too in a pattern of: 1965-69; and '71,'72 & 1980 & -stop- And olden dimes 1964-70 -&- 1980 (none else) but..coming around to thinking I am gonna only drop all that line to make hard cash and turn around and invest it straight up (Armand..& he is kind of "rich"//I don't know exactly he won't let on....SAYS $ can $$ ~double~ "every seven years". He invests in Schwabs and many more....)
First post I have ever in my life made at this forum.
Question: 1970-S quarters. What is UP w/them. I've read that some were stamped over Canadian stock. Worth 15// or 30(?)000.00 $/$$. Is that a fact?
(I collect 1970's certainly and also sequest that date). Any insight from this site will be appreciated.

My understanding are that 1982 and back common Lincoln head pennies have double value. I been saving them seems going on three years now. Use uniform bottles plastic or glass 20 oz or lower. I'd recommend you sit them in your roof loft space, if you have that. Yup, takes time to collect them.
I have at least 19 bottles 20 oz (=$8,00 straight value, each).
And by the way..I have been offering .17 cents for one wheat head any condition. Any thoughts on that?
