Hi Steve, Nice A. Pius. Since it's an A.K. Collection coin, you should keep a lookout for an old auction provenance, as many A.K. coins have 'em. Coincidentally, just this month I received this pretty L. C. Piso Frugi denarius (90 B.C) with a winged caduceus symbol above the horseman on reverse. It shows typical die wear of this massive Social War issue, but it is on the early side of the issue with ROMA spelled-out on the reverse.
Good idea but in this case this coin did not have any. The AK collection details are still up: http://ak.cngcoins.com/level2.asp?Lot=621 I considered bidding on that AK lot also but decided to throw more at the two AK lots I won instead. Some of those will be appearing in John Anthony's future sales since buying the lots gave me some surplus/duplicates. I would still like a paper copy of the AK catalog supplement if anyone has a spare. I have the Triton XX book so all I want is the AK add-on.
Show me an Alexandria drachm (not tet) with legible date, that much obverse legend and smooth surfaces that is NOT worth $60. Aaaaaaalllll day long.
AK include a couple coins I valued at $5 or less and a couple others over $1k if sold in the right time and place. Guess which ones I don't want.
