So yesterday I completed my mint set of FTR, 13/13 mints; today I received the upgrade for Constantinople i wanted. The set consists of coins of both Constans and Constantius ii. I may try for a set for each later down the road. There are also plenty variations to collect as well. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/moonmoth/hut_analysis.html The last one I needed was Lyons Constans officina 1; 348-350 CE 4.13g D N CONSTA-NS P F AVG Rosette diademed, draped, cuirassed bust left, globe in right hand. FEL TEMP REPAR-ATIO Helmeted soldier, spear in left hand, advancing right, head left; with his right hand he leads a small bare-headed figure from a hut beneath a tree. The spear points up and to the right. PLG in ex VIII Lyons 85; LRBC 178 Here is the upgrade for Constantinople which has a interesting boot style seen on some of the FTRs from the mint. Coin Type: Billon centenionalis of Constans, Caesar 333-337 CE, Augustus 337-350 CE Mint and Date: Constantinople, officina 1; 348-351 CE Size and Weight: 20mm x 21mm, 4.30g Obverse: D N CONSTA-NS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust left, globe in right hand. Reverse: FEL TEMP REPA-RATIO Helmeted soldier, spear in left hand, advancing right, head left; with his right hand he leads a small bare-headed figure from a hut beneath a tree. The spear points downwards, between the soldier's legs. Exergue: CONSA Ref: RIC VIII Constantinople 86; LRBC 2012 BW Ref: 115 024 080 Ex Moonmoth I also picked up another FH which came with the other 2 coins I posted earlier. Had a hard time getting a pic, still trying actually DN FL CL JOSEPH LUTUM NOB CAES bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust right FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO soldier standing left, spearing a fallen horseman, hair straight up, no beard, reaching (hair type not in RIC) SMN[?] Nicomedia 97 var C

Nice upgrades @randygeki. I counted and I have 83 FTR's in my collection - they seem to multiply every time I put my coins away and I always have more! Mostly the mint marks are invisible on my examples. I imagine I might have a good selection of mints, but it's really hard to tell. Strangely I don't have any of the soldier leading the small figure out of the hut types, but I have two of the phoenix types. I have a question though, too. Did Julian ever issue any FTR types? I have one coin where the obverse appears to have a bearded figure that looks like Julian. The legend is pretty much illegible so that's no help, but the reverse has the standard soldier spearing fallen horseman type. I checked on wildwinds but as I recall they have no examples of such a coin.
There are FTR of Julian II but I don't believe ant are bearded. That may just be corrosion. I've seen a few of Constantius II that looked bearded because of corrosion. Here's a Julian II FH.
It's Constantius II, you can tell by the Pearl-diademed (head band on the obv.). Gallus and Julian had bare head on the FTRs like on the horseman I posted.
That's awesome, geki => man, that must be a great feeling completing that cool set, eh? (congrats, coin-bro)
Indeed, thanks. Though not completely complete. I got this message from the author of the page link on the first post: "The next step would be to get the different tree types or legend types or bust types or officinas"

In ancients, a set is complete when you declare it to be. There is always another minor difference to see and another coin that must be had. If I had the 13 mints, I'd go next for a set by ruler (there are not 13 of each). Then I'd go for the tree variations where a mint has more than one. Then I'd pay attention to details of the soldier's attire (nice shoes!). Then...
Randy, you're a collector after my own heart. Specialists understand each other. Congrats on your new acquisitions!
Thanks. It's definitely fun finding all the varieties. Like those shoes Btw, I don't think anyone noticed the legend I had for the FH. DN FL CL JOSEPH LUTUM NOB CAES (lutum being latin for dirt, according to google)
