Yah, I saw red_spork's other sweet thread on pentagrams and it made me go snag this thrifty lil' morsel ($19 US, delivered => cha-ching!!)

My favourite seller wasn't 100% sure on his attribution ... I would love it if one of you coiners could verify and/or offer any other info on this thrifty and cool new addition (thanks, in advance)

    Umayyad, Anonymous AE Fals
    Date: 730-740 AD
    Diameter: 14.3 mm
    Weight: 2.6 grams
    Obverse: Pentagram
    Reverse: Legend

We did find this similar example ...

    Umayyad Anonymous Pierre Similar type.jpg

anyway => I'm a sucker for a cool thread, so I thought $19 was a reasonable price to jump on-board!! (all aboard!!)

=> oh, and this is only my 2nd coin from this rare coin-century!! (ya gotta like it, eh?)

    red_spork => I'm sorry for hogging-in on your coin-theme (but I always start a new thread when I score myself a coin) ... thanks for your coin-patience

Cool catch Steve. I had a feeling this was Andalusian from similar looking examples (albeit w/o pentagrams). Its from a very interesting time in Spain's history, right after the conquest of the Visigothic Kingdom and the establishment of Islam in the Iberian Peninsula.

Sweet little coin @stevex6 . I've never seen that type before, but it looks cool.

My one coin from this century, also Umayyad.

that's a cool little islamic coin! doesn't seem like you see pentagrams much on these? modern islamic coins from morroco come to mind...i'm sure there are others.

i don't have many 8th century coins either, here's one early islamic i have from that era...

O: Bust right, Arabic legend behind (Al-Madhi), Sogdian legend before. R: Fire altar, head right. 26 mm, 2.5 g

remember several years ago we did a "coins by century" thread? maybe it would be fun to do one of those again?

Awesome thread-additions, gang (I appreciate the coin feedback)
