thought i'd try a thread on cash register finds since i'm a burger flipper lol..........so if anyone else does the same post your finds......i'll start yesterday i got a 1945 s merc and a 1956 d wheat cent
Were those from rolls being opened in the register, or from a customer paying with them? (either way, cool find)
both actually the managers break open the rolls before putting the drawer in.....and sometimes i get them from customers....once i had a elderly man put some change down on the counter and i heard that ring of silver.........only he heard it too and said oh dont want to spend that one.....oh well........actually i find a lot of silver and wheats
You're lucky The best I've found behind the register have been some star notes, which I dont keep (they are worn, or high numbers). Bicentenial quarters, which I've kept... and I think 1 wheat. lol
It wasn't me, but a few months back a friend of mine who works at a Vegas casino in a cashier's booth, had an old lady come in and want to exchange two rolls of quarters for two new rolls because hers wouldn't work in the machines. He naturally had to check them, and found both rolls were silver Washingtons, all 50's dates. He bought them at face and cashed them in at the coinstore for a nice profit. Lucky devil! Guy~
From roll searching, I think I have at least 5 of those 1 peso coins. Funny thing, I have at least 1 of the copper peso and 2 of the nickel peso from searching half dollars.
Having worked with cash registers 20+ years, the list is kind of long. A full roll of 64 Kennedy halves Unc, several IHC from 1897-1907, 3 Buffs, tons of wheat cents, quite a few war nicks and many silver dimes and quarters and several silver certificates. The only one that stands out was an AU 1944 D/S Lincoln (the less valuable one) that was covered in gunk. I carefully washed it off with soap and water, found the over mintmark and it turned out to be a better example than the one in Cherrypickers guide. (Probably an earlier strike since the S was a bit more formed) I sold it on Ebay for $90 and the buyer was thrilled. If I hadn't been broke at the time, I would have kept that one! My crew thinks I am the worlds biggest geek for keeping a magnifying glass handy, but it is a simple pleasure that breaks up the day. Things I have tried to find but never have: any Web notes at all, any state quarter errors, any presidential dollar edge errors, 1994 DDR Lincoln, 1980D/S Lincoln, any paper money errors at all. This week a youngster came in with his dad and spent 4 rolls of mixed wheat and Memorial cents. There were 43 wheats including a 29-S and a 1918 both in VG or so. I will give the kid a few dollars next time I see him to encourage him to collect coins. My impression was that he and dad raided dad's old Whitman so the kid could buy the game he wanted. While that list may seem long, it is based of of thousands and thousands of hours behind the til, and some of those finds happened in the late 70's. Silver halves came around fairly often back then, and the 40% guys were common even 10 years ago. Keep looking and learning. Finding the 44D/S was one of the coolest moments I have had and you will have something like that come along if you watch carefully. Mike
An 1858 small letters FE cent with EF details a little more than twenty years ago when I was working at a car wash. It came back from NGC in a body bag because of a dented rim. Still a very nice looking coin.
I think she forgot to say that she picked that one up on her last trip with the Time Machine See those circled rings Lou - guess where they're gonna be in 2010
