Thanks Severus Alexander for the mention! Everyone has such awesome coins! Deacon Ray and I have the same collecting area. So, I could post every one of his coins. lol But, I'll just post this one because it's near the top of my wish list: Like a boss. Erin
Hard to pick out just one on @TIF website. But this one immediately comes to my mind. @stevex6 @Bing @Sallent Definitely a lot more...
2 of my favourites from @Nemo 2 rare civil war issues 2 of my favourites from @David Atherton and that wonderful collection of his
Tough competition, but the one I've coveted the most is @IdesOfMarch01 's Three Sisters. It truly is a museum piece.
Thanks for the mention. To be honest, I'm surprised any of my humble coins made it to the thread! I would like to add one more of @Nemo's which is on my Bucket list. Vespasian, with Titus as Caesar. Cappadocia, Caesarea-Eusebia mint, struck 76/77 C.E. AR Didrachm (23mm, 7.16 g, 12h). Provincial style, Dated RY 9. A truly elusive type!
@Parthicus how awesome is this crazy coin? @Pellinore facing! pellinore has lots of awesome weird coins.
I would hardly call your collection humble. You have a wonderful collection which I am sure will be of value to scholars studying Flavian coinage.
Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated. I look at my collection as a 'work in progress' and too often focus on what is missing rather than what is already there.
A few more of my favorite coins from awesome coin friends I like this one from @Jwt708 . I almost bid on this coin as well! Great coin. One of my favorites of @Pishpash 's @dadams 's sweet Hadrian Denarius PS: I agree with Orphew. Your knowledge of Flavian coinage is second to none @David Atherton
Thanks for the kind comments about my coins! This is a fun thread. I'm away from a computer right now and can't play
I could die happy if @Valentinianvs 's Odoacer nummus was mine: And a big thanks to those that mentioned me and my coins!
Glad you like my coin! It is an Arab-Sasanian AE pashiz, from Bishapur, c.690-710 AD. Obverse shows a facing bust, reverse is a man-headed bull wearing a Sasanian-style crown. This type is listed as "R" in Album, and is from a CNG eAuction. The man-headed bull is apparently a specific named character from Persian mythology, but I can't remember the name. The obverse type of a facing bust with big hair was used on some rare coins of the late Sasanian period, and imitated on slightly-less rare coins of the Arab-Sasanians and on some of the Hunnic issues that copy Sasanian types. Plus, it reminds me of the Centauri alien species from Babylon 5:
I love the many stunning pieces @panzerman put on Cointalk, like this one, a gold dinar of the Abbasid caliph Al-Muqtadir minted in Egypte and dating from AD 921. Great calligraphy! And a fine even and well-made coin from the unruly 10th century.
@TIF has a way of telling a story that makes me want more. I had to buy one of these after I saw this pic. It reminds me of my father's friend who was an avid Arkansas Razorback. He had the bathroom in his den decorated in red and displayed his U of A diploma there. He passed before I started collecting ancient coins. He would have like the coin of C. H. Geta -
So many great coins get posted on CT, and I hate to mention just one. @Carthago 's beautiful L Thorius Balbus Is forever stuck in my head; largely because he outbid me for it!! I've yet to acquire the type because I cannot find one anywhere near as nice as this, and it's got a Nicolas Collection (Leu 17) provenance to boot!
Great thread! Don't want to spoil the fun, but want to say that it is easy to do members a disservice by giving the impression one does not like the coins they have posted by not mentioning them - in fact, there are just too many that I like, but the fact is I just can't remember them all! In reality, I have to say I like each and every coin every member has posted here. For me half the fun is witnessing how other people who share my passion feel pride in and derive satisfaction from their coins. Corny, maybe, but true.
