I get so much pleasure, education etc, from this forum, I am happy to be a supporter. It doesn't cost much.

I went into the account upgrade section in my profile and since I can't really shell out for the yearly subscription at the moment, I was glad to see there was a $5 one month option. and so I chose that one. This is easier for me right now, and also if I had know that a year was only $30 I would have done it a long time ago. I am proud to say that I am finally giving back to CT, at least for a month (I'll most likely do the $5 option again next month as well).

I really should have done that a long time ago.

I'll say one good thing for this thread: it has certainly generated several new supporters! Including me, I guess. I told myself I would become a supporter if I ever reached 1000 posts and I had forgotten about it. Better go and do it now!

EDIT: Oops! It will not let me do it. Got the error message:

Never seen that message before from any site. I'll have to figure it out later.

RE-EDIT: I had the latest version of my browser, but CoinTalk does not seem to like Opera. Had to use Firefox.

The guy who made this site and keeps it running had to sell off his coin collection.

Without CoinTalk, the way I enjoy numismatics would be fundamentally changed. It would be a lot lonelier too.

I think it's obvious now that @arnoldoe made the incorrect assumption that the site cost nothing to set up and very little to maintain. Now that it's clear that it isn't the case, perhaps he'd feel better about becoming a supporter.

Is there a list detailing (or does anyone here know) all of the benefits you get as a supporter (besides the warm, fuzzy feeling :D )? I know one is that you have an unlimited/long time to edit your posts, and because of this thread I also now know that you can add photos easily into private conversations. And no ads as well, right?

You can list in the Buy/Sell/Trade every day if you want. There's the super secret sub forum for Supporters. Not sure what else there might be.

I think it is fine that there is an option to be a supporter.

It just seems strange that members are trying to obligate others to give their money to an absent forum owner...

why not send a check to Mark Zuckerburg + the owners of Google, twitter etc, every year and then tell everyone else to do the same.. they bring people around the world together too.

I don't think he is absent as he started a thread today to raise money for a server upgrade..... see link https://www.cointalk.com/threads/are-these-worth-listing.296458/unread

"obligate"? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

"absent"? Last I checked, CoinTalk was up, and had been up almost non-stop for many years. You don't get that with an "absent" owner.

I'm afraid your posts are shedding a lot more light on your personality and contributions (or lack thereof) than Peter's.

Ok... I guess I should have just said convince...

I meant a non active member of the forum.
