I took a closer look at one of my 1922-P Peace dollars and I noticed something very, very faint. To the left of the eagle, there's what I believe to be a double die clash of the same outline of Liberty's head / face. It's definitely beneath the sun's ray. This is the same Peace dollar with the squiggly die clash to the right of the olive leaves, which is from the top recessed area above Liberty's hair.

Going through the exhaustive VAM list, I couldn't find it, unless I missed it. So, could this be new? Or, has anyone already seen or heard of this one before? If it's new, can I name it or does it have to follow the alpha-numeric system? lol

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, that's a clash, in the correct area for the eyebrow on the obverse. A clash, in and of itself, does not designate a VAM. It can be used to define a die state of a given VAM, but clashes (including double clashes) are too darn common to be attempting to identify individual die pars by them. Your coin is likely a known VAM for which a clashed die state is not yet recorded.

For the record, Leroy Van Allen - the guy whose name is the first two letters of the acronym "VAM" - is still with us and still the only person who designates new VAMs. :)

A pic of the full rev and obv would be nice, maybe we could identify the VAM for you, yours looks like a B1 Rev as well, so that narrows it down.:pompous:

I often correlated die clashes with a particular die, but technically, that wouldn't be definitive because the same die clash can occur on any die and would be more similar to die wear than a unique die variety. Now I know better. :)

    Here's the obverse.

As an aside, I'd grade it MS-64 but if I take a closer look with a loupe, maybe it'll be an MS-63 if there's more noise beneath all that haze and tone.

Yea, we always grade our coins higher than what the next hillbilly would grade it. I agree 63 is tops, but still a decent dollar.
The only thing i can really add is that some clashes ARE tied to certain Vams for Morgans. Especially if they show clashed die letter transfer, unless its a new discovery which, this very well could be. Now get over to vam world and be all you can be !!

Wouldnt it have been awesome if i vammed it 4 ya? Im not into Peace vams really, and ive had far too many Millers to even attempt.:hungover:
