Was digging through the coin bin yesterday and found this little cutie hiding in one of the boxes. Its not in the best shape but I felt so sad leaving it behind that I had to pick it up. Its my only hippo coin so far, and I can't complain. It was only ten bucks which is the price of lunch in the city. Otacilia Severa, Sestertius 248 A.D. Cool coin. I'm meaning to start collecting the Saeculares series commemorating the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Rome, but don't have any examples yet. Nice find for $10.
10 $ for a hippo, it's kind of cheapo ! My only Saeculares isn't an animal coin Otacilia Severa, Sestertius struck in Rome, 248 AD MARCIA OTACIL SEVERA AVG, Diademed and draped bust of Otacilia right SAECVLARES AVGG, Cippus, SC in field 22.44 gr Ref : Cohen #68, RCV #9171 Q

Wow, IR $10 I don't think I'd let it sit in some crummy box either. There's only a few coin shops local, I've asked them all several times if they had any ancients. It's always the same response "ancient coins ooohhh no we don't want to even mess with those". All I can do is SMH & leave.
Thats kind of tough, there are only a couple of coin stores by me that I like. One for modern stuff which I rarely go to anymore since I'm more into ancients now. And the other which I got this from, but its a bit out of the way, tiny, and crammed with stuff all over.
$10 => wow dawg, that is an amazing score!! (congrats!!) Ummm, I absolutely "love" my Hippo, but admittedly it cost "100 times" more than your awesome coin!! ... yah, you may have won that battle, my thrifty/lucky coin-friend? (winna-winna) Again => icerain, congrats on adding that baby to your fine collection!!
