Yep. They beat me to it. These are indeed handsome coins, and that Swiss version of the Liberty (LIBERTAS) head has graced their small-denomination coins since the late 1800s, even longer than Lincoln has been our US cents. That must surely make them some of the longest continuing coin designs in history.

    Darn it, I'm so slow.
    Yep. What they said.
    (Edited to remove franc reference)

No, not a franc. 20 rappen. Which would be 1/5 of a franc.

I wish I had a dime for every Swiss cupronickel coin I have bought thinking them to be silver...

Interesting language mix. ;) The German words are Franken and Rappen, and the French words are franc and centime/s. (Left Italian and Romansh out, hehe.)

What is interesting, by the way, is the different plants used for the "Rappen wreaths". They look very similar, but the 5 ct/rp coins have wine grapes, on the 10 you see oak twigs, and the 20 has alpine roses (some rhododendron plant) ...

A silver dime or a clad dime?

The Swiss centime/rappen coins (5, 10, 20) contain silver if they are older than 1878. The franc/Franken coins (½ fr, 1 fr, 2 fr) are silver if they are from before 1968. Only the 5 fr is a little tricky - until 1967 silver, 1968 Cu-Ni, 1969 silver, 1970 and later Cu-Ni ...
