Yes, more Julia Donna coins. These were from before and I am still slowly posting them one by one. Today, I am showing an AE which I always find pretty interesting. Don't know why, but it seems that a lot of silver coins of Julia Domna were struck as a denarius and an antoninianus. Some also has an AE version. This one has a silver version which I believe is struck in all three versions, this one been an As. Julia Domna As. 216 AD. AE26 , 12.8g o: IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG, diademed & draped bust right r: VENVS GENETRIX, Venus seated left, with extended left hand & scepter, SC RIC 605 Caracalla And of course feel free to share anything of interest.
Neat coin - I didn't realize this also came in bronze - here is the denarius version (from Ken Dorney! - I hope he doesn't mind me using his picture). Julia Domna denarius (struck under Caracalla) 216 AD 2.98 g 19 mm IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG draped bust right VENVS GENETRIX Venus enthroned left extending right hand and holding sceptre in left RIC 388c, RSC III 212
icerain => congrats on scoring that OP-winner (sweet As) I still only have the one AR Antoninianus example from this lady ...
I have an As of her also: RI Julia Domna 196-211 CE AE As Hilaritas cornuc RIC IVa 877 A few denarii of hers... RI AR Den Julia Domna 200 CE Felicitas Isis Horus RIC 577 But, this one is a Zombie fouree of the Denarius above... RI Julia Domna 194-217 Fouree AR Plated Den Isis Horus Looks like I have a COUPLE AE's of her!
That's a really nice looking AE Domna, icerain. Here's one I haven't showed in awhile. I ran a poll thread last year asking members to vote their favourite portrait of three Domna coins I had recently bought. This one was my own choice but came in dead last in the poll . https://www.cointalk.com/threads/poll-best-portrait-julia-domna.281295/
Well, she does appear quite serious on that one. There are plenty of portraits that show softer features, but I still like it.
Four from Rome: Victrix (back and front), Felix and Genetrix. Syrian mints and Alexandria have Victory (VICTR, VICTRICI and VICTOR) and Felix but not Genetrix.
