I got this last Tuesday in the portal of a CoinStar machine while going shopping. I blew off all the gunk with a steam cleaner, and it took this beautiful purple/red tone, and in the indentation from the mint too. Can you see the weird reverse or inverted cauliflower shaped indentation over Lincoln's right ear? Wht's your thoughts, if you care to discuss. Any helpful info much appreciated.

Inverted cauliflower , sir. Thanks. My flatbed scanner doesn't work with this browser or OS, and my windows is down until tomorrow, so I will definitely keep this posted as a fix'er-upper, and repost better pix.(soon). Thanks.

Nothing can be determined from those pictures...beyond the fact that 'it looks like' a Lincoln cent....

I've seen cauliflower ears, but never an inverted one. Great find!

As others have said, can't tell from the pics, but here are some thoughts.

Check the reverse opposite the indent. If you see that the design is flattened, then the indent occurred after it left the mint and is PMD.

Check the indent with a magnifying loupe. and look for any breaches in the copper plating. The zinc core easily corrodes.

General rule: If a coin has a lot damage or is covered in "gunk", there is a high probability that whatever anomaly you see is due to hard life it's seen. Not always true, but definitely a good bet.

It's not flattened as in PMD. Just the shield in plain view, no other damage excapt toning, and that weird looking scratch or two.

What I will do, is entertain you with the reverse scans next, to prove it was made this way. brb. Reposting reverse scans next.
Do you see ducks & runners in the middle of the E going towards C?

That is a common cent with PMD....

I have a better condition one with very same concavity as the forementioned, but you can see it in the light with a camera, just dead on scans won't show exactly how deep the hairline is over his right ear from scans. HD photos of a newer similar one with a black mark in the area on the reverse.

David, stand on your head. It will then be inverted.
