I buy the annual Proof ASE from the mint (W) and then I find out this year a special coin was produced at (S) San Francisco mint. I didn't see where it was offered to the public and now will have to pay dealer prices to get one. The dealers have it too easy. Any thoughts...

Do you really think the Mint cares?

It was offered to the public in the Congratulations Set. Only 75,000. Sold out in 2 minutes because the mint did not put a household limit on it. It will supposedly be offered again later this year in the limited edition proof set, but that is capped at 50,000.

search "Congratulations ASE" and there's a bunch of threads about it ...

I've bought them in the past and was not able to buy one at noon the day it was released. Though I didn't really follow that there was going to be a stampeded to buy it either.

So much for actually using the "set" as intended.

Some of us on the boards tried to give others a heads up about it, but at the time it seemed nobody really cared.

I purchased one on the secondary market.... the sellout was incredibly fast on the Mint site.

The way I understand it is that the Limited Edition Silver Proof Set will include two Silver Eagles, The "W" AND "S" mint mark. That will rise the cost of that set.

I read about the two proof eagles coming out in the LIMITED EDITION SILVER PROOF SET on another website called "COIN NEWS." I get a lot of information from there. Check it out. More information is more knowledge.
