OK, now that I was able to upload the pictures, here we go again...

Do you believe this is late roman coin?

Its size is about the same of a US dime...

    Any comments?

    Thanks!

Looks like a dodecanummium (12 nummi) of either Justin I or Justinian I from Alexandria mint. But the style seems rather crude (look especially at the obverse legend DN IVST..., letters seem a bit off). Maybe it is an imitation by one of the "barbarian" groups? Maybe the Vandals in North Africa? Someone who knows more should be along eventually.

Even official Byzantine from the Alexandria mint has crude lettering that fails to reproduce names correctly. That OP coin is as good as most. There is no need to postulate it might be an imitation.

All right, in that case I retract my suggestion of imitation. Byzantine, 12 nummi, Alexandria mint, either Justin I or Justinian I (the key part of the legend is missing).

Cool! Glad to finally see it. I know the (initially nonexistent) pictures were a non-starter in that other thread, which positively required some joking around. ;)

Not a fake. Lack of a complete legend is pretty normal for 12 nummi from Alexandria. I collect both Byz and Arab-Byz and some times its hard to tell
the difference as both tend to be crude. I love em.

Well thanks, that explains the IVIT I've found on other Byzantine coins. I always assumed they were forgeries. Are there other Byzantine mints that produced coins that crude?
