Well i finally freed my Larissa drachm from the plastic tomb! I must say, being able to admire this coin (and actually touch it) brings me great pleasure. Thought id shoot these couple of photos before she goes off to the bank.
Such a beautiful coin that is well deserving to be appreciated and free! I see its new home is a paper envelope - Awesome!
Lovely coin! Fingernail closeups, however, I've never been too fond of... (Though I will say that yours aren't as bad as most... mine included. When I do shots like that, I wear a white cotton glove.) What was the plastic grade, out of curiosity?
Here's mine. Also free: Thessaly, Larissa AR Drachm, 6.0g, 20mm, 12h; c. 380-365 BC. Obv.: Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly right, wearing ampyx, earring, and necklace. Rev.: [ΛAPI]-ΣAIΩN, horse grazing right.
Here is a smaller Larissa which I've been told is kinda rare: THESSALY, LARISSA AR Trihemiobol OBVERSE: Head of the nymph Larissa right, wearing pendant earring REVERSE: ΛAPI above, ΠΛE in exergue, horse right, about to roll Struck at Larissa 370-360 BC 1.4g, 12mm BCD Thessaly II 274; Hoover, Volume 4 under "trihemiobols (c. 1.5g)" on page 146, number 474. R2 = Very Rare...3-24 extant examples
Lol, why I got her with no resistance. I thought it looked more like a beetle or crab claw fixing to pinch her eye.
Or a MASSIVE eye sty! My Larissa: Thessaly Larissa 344-337 BCE AR Obol 0.68g Nymph Larissa Horse Grazing SNG Cop 1
