Hi, Is this coin worth sending off to PCGS ? First three pics are taken with my microscope- last two with my iPad because I wanted to show the shininess/color. Also, is it worth a few bucks, I'd love to know. Any help would be appreciated Oh, and I'd like to find some info on coin grading for beginners.. thanks Penny

First, there is no such grade as AU56. Second, if this were even to grade an MS65 it is only worth around $10.00. I doubt you will get that grade with the weak strike at the "O" in One and other various small marks on the coin. Third, is it worth around $30.00 for you to send in to be graded? It is still in nice condition and a keeper but IMHO not worth the expense.

Not a bad lookin' cent, but not remotely worth sending in, I'm afraid. You'd spend many multiples of the coin's value in fees. Even in full Red Mint State, the 1958 Lincoln cent is extremely common and worth very little. I have rolls of coins that are that nice or nicer, which I often give away, they cost me so little. By all means, admire that one and keep it if you like, but don't spend $35++ for grading on a coin worth 25¢, 50¢, $1.00, $5.00 - etc. Ain't nothin' wrong with it- it's just not a good candidate for slabbing, that's all.
PS- carbon spotted, to boot? Yeah... No. Don't waste your money. That coin's worth less than a buck. Fine for a folder or album, maybe, but a slab? Fuhgeddaboutit.
Wow, thanks everyone for the great advice! I know a little bit about how PCGS works, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to figuring out if a coin is worth grading. I need to do some more research on this subject. Penny
Hey, what's the deal with rainbow coins ? I've noticed that a lot of people like them. Are they worth anything or just cool to look at ?
It takes a while (and much trial and error) to learn. Asking questions as you just did saves a lot of heartache! (Can cause heartache or frustration, too, but hey, like they say, "don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.") Colorful toning? Why yes, many folks go for it. But only when it's original, not artificial... or secondary. (I will let someone else explain further, as I must go for now.) Good luck! Keep up the enthusiasm!
I agree with the gallery. It will cost more to Slab than it will be worth. At best it is AU and people have unopened mint boxes of rolls of MS 1958 Wheaties.
