Hi I have this wheat penny from 1944 and it looks extremely red compared to all my others.. Is this worth any thing? Is there a Name for it or is it just from usage and whatnot?? Thanks!
The problem is that kids learn how to use crayons before they learn how to grade. When it comes to coins, it should be the other way around. Chris
Skating rinks in the 50's and 60's dyed a couple cents or nickels and threw out a cupful for the skaters to pick up for a special event. The red coin would be worth a dollar at the snack bar. Probably not many on the site remember roller skating rinks!
Yes it's worth something.. 1 Cent 2017 - 1944 = 73 year old Cent It definitely did not come out of the mint looking as it does 73 years later. It does not look red, more like orange. Just a dirty old coin Welcome to CoinTalk Peace
Correct, as @paddyman98 said. I specified the use of "crayons" in my analogy simply because I don't think too many boys use nail polish. However, adding to what @SchwaVB57 said about the 50's & 60's, many taverns to this day use quarters with red nail polish on them for their pool tables and video games. Many tavern owners lease the equipment for a percentage of the proceeds, and the colored quarters are not included in the "take". Chris
