What effect will the release of the new Thomas Jefferson First Spouse coin (Jefferson's Liberty) have on the value of the first two issues, Martha Washington and Abigail Adams?
IMO the Jefferson will only draw attention to the series, which will be good for the first two issues. I use to buy the AE gold bullion coins for investment, but I am buying these now due to the fact that they are far more than just an investment. I don't think I am alone, I would not be suprised to see people jump from the buffalos as well. Gold is also going up almost every day. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal that said China and some other countries are buying up gold, that is why gold is going up. So I feel that I have an investment that will appreciate, but also please the eyes for years to come. IMO
I voted no effect for 1st two or any other normal spouce coin. I think the liberty pieces will do very well with this as the key. The other liberty's will be helped by this one as collectors will collect these as a sub set. Come to think of it Jackie O will do well and bill clinton will do well - LOL...
no effect, people who are buying the set, will continue to buy the set, speculators will, well speculate.
I dont think its going to have any effect whatsoever on the value of the first two issues whether it be up or down. If the values of the first two issues happen to change it will be because the demand for the first two. I also agree with Darryl, the Liberty pieces will become the keys to the Gold Spouse set.
No question about that. I just wonder whether the interest in the keys will cause more people to want to put together a complete set. If so, they'll need the first two issues and I'm willing to bet this year's coins will be the lowest mintages of the entire series.
A complete set ...lol. 37 Mint State at "today's issue price" = $15,170. 37 Proof State at "today's issue price" = $15,910. A complete set of both = $31,080 not taking into consideration any numismatic rarities. Just out of pocket cost; bought from the Mint.
I don't think so - too much money to invest for the average collector. The first three wives will do well, after that I bet the value will decrease compared to the Liberty's and the first three wives. I think it will be a mistake to raise the limit as the keys I mentioned may be the only ones to have such popularity in the future. Keep them rare to raise interest. An artist keeps the numbered signed prints low to keep the value high. I think the same goes here. If they raise it, I hope it's not by more than the double the current numbers. BTW - this would require an act of congress, right? This congress cannot seem to get much right so we shall see. I would think time is running out to change the numbers for next year.
I look for DOLLEY M. to kick off the LADIES section, boy the first two images look like a couple of my grammar school teachers!! Owning the whole series would be ridiculous (money wise or investment wise) Even the most ardent collectors would find it hard to swallow some of the less noteworthy Pres.&Spouse combinations!! (NO Names please!) I think I could be happy with say 5 or 6 of the spouses!! (think about it for a series)
But that's over 10-11 years. It's a lot, and I agree, not for everyone, but plenty of people spend that much on a single coin.
No effect, however, each coin will have it's own market just as any other coin. My 2 cents worth.. RickieB
Martha Washington, mother of our country, will be one of the biggies in this series if there are any. If prices keep dropping on the earlier two coins, the ones that missed out on the mints initial offering may look at them, especially Mrs. Washington. Dolly is kind of cute. Nice to see the ladies without the head gear. Several of the modern golden girls will be popular. If they can work Marlyn Monroe in there somewhere, maybe a platinum Blonde coin, a 30 minute sell out. So on the first two, I will predict ... Maybe.
Seeing as how the mintages will increase for future spouse coins, I'm willing to bet that sometime in the 10+ year program that there will be a rarity along the lines of the Jackie Robinson $5.00 unc. gold coin. Problem is, trying to figure out which one and get it at issue price before they aren't available from the mint anymore. i.e.( 2006-W burnished platinum set, Capitol Visitor Center $5.00 unc., etc.)
So, you are proposing a First Mistress series. Marilyn Monroe, Monica Lewinsky. If a president didn't have a mistress during his term, then they would issue a liberty coin. Agree, the Marilyn Monroe coin would have to be platinum.
It seems that the closing price in eBay auctions for the MW and AA coins has gone up a bit, now quite a few closing over $500. A lot of people have suggested that prices will rise toward the Christmas season. Does anyone think the rising price of gold is a factor?
One of a kind. Only 20,000 of each of a coin that looks like it was minted in 1807. this coin can only go up
I agree with you about the Thomas Jefferson Liberty coin. (probably the others coming out next year and 2010 as well). I was really asking about the MW and AA coins. Their prices seem to be moving back up.
Two nights ago the HSN coins show had the proofJeff spouse coin along with a proof Jeff Pres. coin for 1100.00. Thats more then double the cost. They sold out of 78 coins in like 15 min. Wonder how they got 78 coins
42 wow nice investment! I wish I could have gotten a few more. What do you think about the price HSN is charging
