    Septimius Severus, captive with emperor denarius

    thats all i know

    coin could be based from the captive vespasian and titus

    most off this coins you see 2 captives

    That is a very interesting coin and one I have never seen with a clear emperor. Of course I have spent very little time looking at late Rome mint denarii. Considering you post a complaint after an hour of no answer I am not inclined to research it when I get home to my books. Any post on this list needs to take into account that we have members in many time zones and not everyone will see every post as soon as it goes up. Thanks for sharing the coin. It is interesting.

    Ro, the coin on Vcoins appears to have the right hand "captive" standing, I think the description is incorrect.

    The one on Wildwinds describes two captives, one sitting and the other standing. The standing figure appears to have his hands behind his back (tied?) and he is wearing a cloak. I would expect the emperor would be wearing more clothes.

    Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.27 g, 7h). Rome mint. Struck AD 207. Laureate head right / Trophy of arms; to left, captive seated left, in attitude of mourning; to right, bound captive standing right. RIC IV 214; RSC 498. Near EF, toned.

    i buy my coin, i thought the emperor was standing near the captive as this one

    ahhh, I see ... wow, that's a really cool example of captive seated and captive standing with hands tied behind his back (very cool)

    thanks for showing that example (that one is a bit nicer than your example) ... but your example is awesome too
