Can anyone help me or direct me to photo software that you place an arrow at a point of a coins error and not compromise the photo? Free is good. Thanks

As I experiment, I think I need a better digicam, but here goes.
    I tried this with paint:

    Highlighting a 1911-S Lincoln, S over S FS 1 cent # 012-85

Is this what you are looking for? FYI, I used paint and copied a clipart arrow (unclicked "draw opaque") onto the picture.

That looks like a D over O over S. Odd coin. Nice find.

Not sure what these are... I found several omm's and rpm's in a collection I bought. Rolls of early semikey lincolns and a bunch of bags. Have been going thru and spotted these, they are the best 2 so far. I'll get a package ready to get certified and attributed.

There is also a technique in MS paint where you can draw a perfectly straight line. I'm not sure what's it's called, but it's in the upper right corner of the paint commands, over top of the paint cans and spray cans and stuff.

That is the first time I have done it although I have used paint more than once. It took less than 5 minutes plus about 5 to find an arrow that looked descent.

Just to play around, I tried a couple more arrows. The red is hand drawn with the straight line function. The second purple is the same arrow with a chunk deleted from the arrow before I copied it. If you want to take the time, you can delete the whole center and have the coin show through. I think that looks neater.

Free...hmmm...guess that rules out Photoshop CS3 Extended, even though it's only $900. ;)

Glad someone asked that. I used to know how to do that but as with many things with age, I forgot. Now as soon as this was answered I remembered doing that.
Of course you could just paint an arrow on the actual coin:smile
