My third damaged goods from the show is a travel coin but not what you are thinking. Understand that I do like Hadrian's travel coins and my new coin showing Africa reclining holding a scorpion and cornucopia and wearing an elephant headdress. At her feet is a basket of grain. Did I mention the really special part? The coin is a denarius of Septimius Severus (Rome mint) and not one you see every day. A quick survey of online sales suggests these don't bring any more than the much more common Africa standing version. It also suggests that nice ones are hard to find. I bought mine solely for the reverse and am tolerating the lamination flan flaw behind the head on the obverse. It may not be bad enough to be called a 'one sided coin' but beware of sellers who ask Triton prices for eBay coins. The same seller had three Hadrian travel coins an Africa, Aegyptos and a really nice (fault free) Nilus. I was tempted but you cant buy them all. I don't have many Rome mint Septimius denarii from the later (SEVERVS PIVS AVG) period. This one is welcome.
I love everything about this coin! - the artistic bust, the level of detail on the reverse and AFRICA spelled boldly above. I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Like the scratches on the Otho, the lamination on this coin is a complete non-issue.
Very nice addition, Doug. Love the scorpion detail on the reverse. Lamination doesn't bother me much. I have several coins where one side means more to me then the other due to a flaw or something.

I would've been really happy with this one too. The lamination damage doesn't detract much at all from the overall appeal of the coin. Great buy! The much more common Africa standing...
