Hey, I was wondering, since I didnt get the books yet, I just wanted to know if cents that for example have a D or nothing under the year are still worth something. I was having some problems, so I found a big jar of coins, mainly pennies, mostly Canadian but some US coins. It Kept me busy and kept my mind off things. Anyway, and so I found some coins with either a D or nothing under the year, for the US coins (60s and 70s), and wondering if those would be worth anything.
The D mint mark indicates that they were minted in Denver. Those with no mint mark were minted in Philadelphia. As to their value, that depends on the grade.
I was just thinking, If aboncom/SGS gets in trouble shouldn't ebay aswell too? I'm sure ebay has received comments about them, and just didnt do anything because of course there making a lot on the fees or deal whatever they made with aboncom.
Your right, ebay makes too much off them One suggestion I have that I haven't seen mentioned is on price guides. I like the Red Book for reference, but the prices are high. The PCGS price guide is usually way high. As i have learned here, completed auction resuls are a real good indicatorof current values. you can look on ebay as one source and look at a few coins of the same date and mintmark in similar condtion and figure an average. Start slow and collect what interest you is my advise. I have had a lot of fun reading books and magazines about coins and coining. By the way, welcome to the forum.
Thanks Vipergts2 for the welcome. when do you guys think they will get stopped? Hope ebay gets nabbed too!
Reaper you have no idea how much we would love to see that but ebay is like the government. As long as they make money who cares about the little guy. That's why we constantly post auctions, new "grading" services etc. At least you only got burned once and it was not a substantial amount but that's a relative term now isn't it? We just have to keep on educating, reporting and emailing. We can always savor our little "victories" and you are one.
I was thinking of this, getting you know the $25 package where you get to list your ebay item at the top of the list, and putting Do Not Buy SGS Coins MS as the ebay item title and then explanation for description. But we know ebay would take that off right away.
hey, just updating you guys, Im picking up my coins tomarow and will hopefully get some pictures on here. They just charged me 35% on top of my what I paid for the coins for customs. Unbelievable. I dont think ill be returning them, still have to pay for customs, loose on my shipping cost, then i have to pay to ship it again. Rather just keep them as a reminder of stupidity.
hey guys, i just picked up the coins. They look in ok condition, I just dont know if they were cleaned or not. here are some pictures, dont know if you can tell much by them though.
Wait, stop, do not collect any more coins. Not sure what we are doing but for every new collector, there are less coins for me. I would suggest you send any coins so far to me. I will suffer collecting coins. We all could help you get started collecting Beanie Babies. All just kidding of course.
Everytime we talk about SGS and E-bay I guess it is free ad time for them Maybe they have a spy here:secret:
aslong as we keep stating DO NOT BUY SGS coins, it should be ok. and if there are any spies from sgs here, please read more books on coins and gradings!
