    This 1885-O is one of my new purchases. It is slabbed by NGC, and though I personally do not agree with the grade on the holder, I thought it would be nice to see what you guys think of her.

    As long as we're playing, here are a few more new purchases:
    1878-S Semi PL

    1943

    1963 Franklin Proof Cameo Obverse

    Heres my guesses

    1885-0 is MS66
    1878-S is MS62
    1943 is MS64 and
    1963 is PF65

    I find uncirculated and proof coins very tough to grade compared to circulated. Whatever the grades, very nice coins.

    Here's my thought's:

    1885 O=64
    1878 S=63
    1943=65
    1963=66

    In order top to bottom -

    64 - the strike is not strong enough for a 65 IMO

    63 details, harshly cleaned

    64 - if it was not for the rim ding it would go 65

    63 - poor strike quality for a Proof and spotted

    Just so everyone knows, the lines you are seeing on the 1878-S are actually die polish lines not hairlines from cleaning. There is no rim ding on the Walker what you are seeing is reflection from the cellophane of the 2x2.

    NGC graded the 1885-O Morgan MS66. I personally like it as a 65. Though the obverse is very clean, the strike is not great for an 1885-O and the two hits on the eagle's breast should keep this coin from going super gem. I would grade the 1878-S MS64 Semi PL as it has a nice strike which is typical for the date, but too much chatter on Liberty's cheek to go Gem. The Walker is an MS65 all day long. It has great lustre, a very well defined thumb, well struck eagle's breast, and few distracting marks. The Franklin, though not worth grading, is about a PR66. I have dipped it in acetone to remove the spot on the reverse, and will make a great albumn coin with the cam obverse. Thanks for playing!

    Possible TOLS, but I don't think so.

    If you look closely at the reverse you can see that the lines stop short of actually touching the devices. With cleaning, one would see the lines go over the arrows and continue on. Also, the lines are actually raised from the surface of the coin, which makes it certain that they are die polish lines. That being said, I have the advantage of being able to look at the coin in hand with a loupe. Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference from an image. Especially one like mine which is of poor quality.
