     @jello Thanks. Been at it since I was 7 y/o. I hoarded the important ones. I have in my arsenal 1969 S DDO Lincoln Mem. Cents (3) BU's. + a 1954 S with a double rev = DDR. The earliest DDO is an UNC 1865 curly 5 in a slabbed holder, as for small cents. I have (5) 1995 DDO's, (1) 1998 DDO LMC (in photos) ^^ and a 84 Double Ear variety, and several I think (5) 1997 DDO LMC's too. Thanks for looking. Oh, almost forgot, also a 1975 DDO LMC where the 197 are clearly doubled under 25X pen microscope with photos.

I apologize in advance for any silly questions but bare with me because i am learning all this still.

You said the diameter would be smaller. When a quarter is made on nickel planchet, it would be the size of a nickel?

 

The nickel plachet would get squished-out to be larger than the original nickel planchet but it would probably not completely fill the quarter-sized cavity. The quarter on nickel error would weigh exactly the same as a normal nickel.

You might want to buy Alan Herbert's book to learn more about error coins & the minting process. I suspect there might be used copies available on Amazon. (I would normally suggest The Error Coin Encyclopedia but I see it has become quite expensive).

Okay, thank you! I will definitely get on Amazom to check it out. I inherited a ton of US and foreign coins from my mom. Also we did a junk removal job on a hoarders house. He was a retired UC professor and had passed away. The house was filled of books, papers and drawers and drawers of coins! I'll be busy for some time.

 

That is great. Maybe as you go through the coins you will become interested in (addicted to) collecting coins yourself..

I remember going through a huge number of World coins & then I started collecting them myself. First I separated the hoard into plastic zip-lock baggies and labeled each bag with the country name. I ended up with perhaps 50 labeled baggies. The next step was to look-up the individual coins of each country in the Krause World Coin Catalog. It was a lot of fun. To be honest, I learned much about geography, politics, economics, etc going through all those World coins.

I look forward to seeing some of your coins & future threads.
