    Hey there,

Just an interesting coin that I picked up recently. It was found in Cadiz, Spain weighs only .5 grams and has some crude features that make me think its a Vandal coin struck during the reign of Honorius. Vandal Siliqua- head.jpg Vandal Siliqua- rev.jpg

    Thoughts?

The weight would make it a half Siliqua, however I can not answer your question due to the mint being illegible.

I have a very similar type to yours. Here's a pic:

    Honorius Half Siliqua 2.jpg
On this one you can just make out the center two reverse exergual letters, which appear to be *SR*. This coin is clearly a half siliqua as it's only 11mm and 0.7gms, which are similar to your coin.

RIC X No. 3703 cites a Siliqua (not half Siliqua) in the name of Honorius with this VICTOR - IA AVGG reverse and PSRV in exergue and attributes it to the Visigoths, which very well could match this (and your) coin.

Thanks Brian. That helps a lot. I really enjoy these late barbarous coins. I would imagine they are not that common

Thanks. I just hate to use the word barbarous for these types. Hard to group the Visigothic issues in with the feeble attempts we see in the Constantine era, where the coin are just a cartoonish copy.

Decent Zenonis monogram by the way.

Thanks Brian. I found that beauty of a coin in a "junk" coin lot a couple years back. A lucky find!

Hmmm? ... ummm, is it a Vandal coin? (sorry, I may have prematurely-posted)
