Would this happen to be an error or PMD?. Looks like another mint mark to me. There no damage to the back.
Then that brings a follow up question, whats the point of it? I have five thus far and none have any punch marks. It takes away from the value of the coin, so it doesn't make sense.
yes, paddy. A punch would incuse it's mark into the field. If it was raised, that'd be a different story altogether.
A small punch mark on the design or the field as that will not leave a mark on the reverse side if done on a soft surface like a rubber mat.
THANK YOU! I figured a punch mark would at least go through the other side or raise it a bit, but no isue there. Glad to learn something new
It's because they aren't supposed to have the mark on them! Have you looked at the reverse to see if there is any damage (flattened device) caused when the idiot hammered this into the obverse? It takes away from the numismatic value, not the face value. Chris
Yes! You can see where the eagle is missing some detail of the wing feathers just below the curve of the shoulder. Chris
Would you be able to tell me if these are also altered? After researching.... I think the dime is a clad error and the SBA might be a wrong planchet, but never too sure.
The dime just looks like it has been subject to nothing more than 44 years of circulation. Like mikenoodle said, the SBA looks like it has been plated. Chris
