No cladding. They are solid 75% copper and 25% nickel.

dratt... I was hopin for pure nickle... I was goin to make a ring out of it... lol personally Im not a fan of the copper ... it tends to darken too fast and is a pain to polish every week

They are not sandwiched like the dimes and quarters so a nickel should work fine. The color you see is consistant thru the coin. Another option would be older Canadian nickels as they are 100% nickel.

1981 and before are 100% nickel except for some of the wartime issues.

the problem with pure nickel though is it is HARD and brittle, probably not the best for ring making.

i thought you could easily bend a pure metal? thats why i thought they made coins out of a mixture of metals.

I've got a cheaper and better idea. If you have any piping or anyone you know has any piping, cut off a piece for a ring. If you look around you can find Copper, Brass, Aluminum, Stainless Stell, PVC and on and on and on it pipe types and the same with sizes. Right now I am wearing a Stainless Steel ring I bought at a thing called the King Richards Fair. When I looked at if when I got home I always wondered why I don't do that.

Another thought for a ring. Way back when I was in High School shop class, one of our projects was to create a ring. We used large nuts from a hardware store and ground out the threads on the inside to fit our finger. Then did the same to the outside to create the ring. Stainless steel rings!

I remember that. We used washers and glued as many as required together. With the nuts you should have left the threads on the inside so you could screw the ring onto your finger.:eek:dd:
Back to the material of a Nickel. Hidden inside is a drop of Radium. It is shielded by the Copper/Nickel mixture which is why those metals are mixed. This is done by our government so that if someone drills out the coin to make a ring, it will start glowing and they can come get you. The fine for such actions is you have to work for the government by collecting taxes in areas hit by the Hurricanes. :hammer:
No pure metal does not necessarily bend because it is pure metal. Except Mercury of course.

And they are selling for $0.10 each, if not more. :) Hence the reason I've been saving them. Instantly doubling my money!
