...and most people don't complain. They just quietly move their business elsewhere. So, in theory, you did the bank a favor. I just wanted a good story, so thank you for the chuckle.

I don't mind if she wanted to personally profit. More power to her/him. Git the poop out of sight. In the end she was not very bright. Guess that says a lot about myself.
Will I ever learn? Why keep banking at a bank where tellers still have to be....?

There are so many good tellers out there and so many bad.

I do the bank a favor all the time. They are informed. Do not piss on my leg. I am always polite.
    The stories I could tell.

I'd assume this bank allows tellers to buy out coins/currency from the till since the teller thought this was in any way an acceptable thing to do. I believe many banks disallow this type of activity completely to avoid these type of situations and prevent theft. The problem for her is really the moment she refused a customer an achievable request. How would it look if a jewelry store clerk stopped just short of a sale because they decided the piece was beautiful and they would purchase it instead? Or a waiter took a plate back before the customer takes their first bite because they just found out the item was 86'd and they would like a plate for their dinner?

Hit the Trays fellas! Anytime the banks are open is good but for some reason I have found Wednesday is on average the best day during the week.

I can see both sides to this issue. Walk into a bank you have an account at and want to take money out of it, you are absolutely going to do it with a smile on your face as a business that wants to stay in business.

Even if I want it all in cents, quarters, dimes, etc; its all still money and that's how I want it.

Do I have the right to say I want THAT cent, quarter, dime, etc; that to me is a little more gray. As a business that wants to make a customer happy it should be a no brainer though.

You should check teller trays Texag. Just look at how many silver half's were minted (including Ben's & Walkers) not just the JFK's. There are millions upon millions that were minted. They have to be somewhere and they are showing up. I cannot CHR boxes at the moment so going to these banks twice a week has been the way I do it. I have to say I get some halves per week (average of $ 7.00 to $ 10.00) but most are clad but it is the name of the game. Good Luck.

    You said it brother !!!

I know the look and hesitation at this point when you ask if they have any halfs. Few in my area keep their trays out any longer, but when they look and there is a moment of hesitation and they look back at me and say no. I know they are lying, it's ok. I get it, but I see it in Their eyes and smile, same one I get when I find silver in a Loomis roll!

I really can't believe how some people are ragging on the tellers here. A LOT of them know about silver and coins in general and if they find something they want to keep for themselves, it's common practice for them to either put the coins in a certain part of their tray or in their drawer for safe keeping... Just because you as a customer see something you want doesn't mean you own it...

The best thing to do is to develop a rapport with your banks and tellers... I have several tellers that are on the lookout for me now. I show them my best finds, and they are usually impressed... I've gotten a full roll of War Nickels, some Buffalo Nickels and Wheat Cents from tellers who have saved stuff for me over the past few months...

In theory you have the right to ask if they have any silver in the safe. Some times I have had to come back to have it done due to an authorized person at lunch or such. Have received silver proof Ikes, Walking halves and Franklin halves. It helps to get to know at least one cashier well to add to the program. With a wink they will tell you to ask on a given day.
