Dd or md on 1989 penny?

Can you please help me identify this kind of doubling?

That's plate doubling, it's very common on 1982 and newer pennies.

I think you probably already know the answer.

 

I promise I don't. I am new and still trying to tell the difference and how you know the difference.

 

The nose took a hit. The relief is lower. A true doubled die would not have a dent between Primary and secondary image. Study known doubled dies. And don't give up

It's perfectly okay not to know and to ask questions. After all, this is how we often learn. Steve is right though; don't give up, and please do understand that for whatever reason, a surprising number of people seem to get a kick out of trolling the board with similar questions, so if you get a response that seems rather harsh, just ignore it.
