Hi all, I always wanted a MPC - Military Payment Certificate.. Saw one at the Flea Market today for $4.00 Not in the best of shape but I like its history. @mpcusa thought of you when I saw this! Any info you can share on it?
Hey Paddy thanks for the tag here,s the skinny on your note: Series 461 Issued: September 16, 1946 Withdrawn: September 30, 1947 Countries used: Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Morocco, Netherlands, Philippines Ryukyus, Scotland, Trieste, Yugoslavia. Population of the 5 cent note: 7,616,000 being the first set in the MPC set, it is popular with collectors, here are a few of Mine not one of my main sets however i do have one of the highest rated $10 note from the series here are some examples, always happy to answer any and all questions.
One thing to say about smaller denominations vs. larger denominations - the smaller denominations tended to get saved as souvenirs by service members, the larger denominations tended to be only saved because someone somewhere missed a C-Day. In the Series 461 - Series 641 the highest denomination was the $10, starting with the Series 661 - Series 701 the largest denomination was the $20. My father was traipsing out in the field on an investigation in SE Asia when the C-Day for the Series 661 notes happened - otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the little pile of notes years later and still have them.
mpcusa, that note he posted is a series 472, not 461. Paddyman, for easy reference, the first two numbers of the series are the year (1947) and since it was the second issue that year, a 2 follows.
The first two numbers in the series number represent the year the series was ordered by the Army. It it necessarily the year of issue.
The next thing you need is a replacement note MPC and More money.Replacement note are the one with the serial number with a prefix and NO suffix letter. Good hunting.
I have been collecting them for over 10 years. I only have about 13 to complete all of the sets, except for replacements. The ones left; 471 $5.00; 541 $5.00 & $10.00; 591 $5.00 & $10.00; 591 $5.00 & $10.00; 611 $.05, $.10, $.25, $5.00; 681 $10.00; 692 $10.00. I have no replacements. I would like to get better of the ones, but just completing it would be nice.
