Very Nice. I really like those Blue, Uncirculated Mint packs. And the coin inside.
Something about an Ike I Like. I like the Proof ones too.

I like it. 40% silver. It says "Uncirculated". But I assume all the 1971-S are proofs.
Why doesn't it say Proof on the packaging?
Not being a wise guy, just asking a question I don't know the answer to.

The mint made proofs and unc's (San Fran) that year Michael.........much anticipated at that time, as I remember.

Wait a second........just checked. They only made the uncirculateds in 40 % that year. Just checked again.........I was right the first time.

    I think. :)

It was tough to keep up with all the changes. I have to look it up.

Right. So my question is, this looks like an Uncirc 1971-S and not a proof coin.
(But IDK that's why I asked.)
And I still like it. Just trying to get some education on this point.

Not a proof coin, two types of Ike sets were issued in 1971:
    Blue envelopes = UNC/MS 40% Ag
"brown box" Ike = PRF 40% Ag

For 1971 and 1972 The only way you could get a a Proof Ike was in the Brown Boxes. Some people took them out for books.

Like was stated above the OPs coin is an UNC. Silver Ike (Business Strike.)

Here is a 1971-S Brown box Ike I have that is still in its OGP. 1971SPLBB.jpg
These tend to tone blue due to the red velvet in the OGP.

They also made a three piece Proof Set, 40% silver quarter, half and dollar in 1976 for the Bicentennial. That's my daughter's birthday. I bought the 1976 Uncirculated set which was a vertical set in cardboard with a cellophane window and a Proof Set that was fancier. It was like a little book that opened to the three pieces in capsules. I also bought her the regular proof and mint set. Overkill? She still has all the sets today. It has become a family tradition. I gave her husband a Proof Set of his birth year and a Proof Set for each of my three grandchildren for their birthyears.

Unfortunately a Proof Set was not made the year my wife and I were born, so we put together a birthyear set of uncirculated coins and put them into a capital holder for our set. At least the coins are 90% silver in our set.

    Montcollector:
I needed an Ike for my album and it had the typical blue tone on it. I used acetone and it took the toning off without effecting the coin metal.

I have one for the album that is not blue. I intend to leave the Brown Boxes complete. 1971SPF_opt.jpg

But thanks anyways. I did not know acetone would remove the Blue.

I thought that the blue was desirable for this coin.
But I am not surprised the acetone removed the toning.
