This coin was listed as a bargain Easter coin at ~30 US and I'm so happy I got it. I had this coin on my watchlist the morning it was listed but for reasons I'm still unsure of I just didn't pull the trigger. When I finally decided to grab it, the coin was gone from the sellers shop. I was pretty bummed but I figured I'd inquire if it was still for sale because it wasn't showing as sold. Thankfully I did because the dealer was just about to put it back on sale at a more dealer friendly price. Anyway I'm probably rambling now but if we're doing vcoins reviews I'd say check out Dr. Martina Dieterle, one of the more friendly dealers I've come across. I believe Oki got a hell of a deal that weekend as well. To top it all off it took 7 days to get from Germany to Canada.. man it's taken longer to get across country for me before. Please share any Severus, bargain or vota coins or whatever you want really I'm not picky. Septimius Severus 193-211 Rome mint 208 18mm 3.37g Laureate bust right/ VOTA SVSCEPTA XX emperor standing sacrificing from patera over altar left. RIC 308 I'm just a bit confused about one thing. VOTA SVSCEPTA XX means prayers undertaken for 20 years of rule but Severus had only been ruling for 15 or so years at this time.. maybe I'm just misunderstanding? Any critique on the photo is welcome too
Not really relevant but if anyone's been having problems on wildwinds like I have try windows+r>cmd>ipconfig /flushdns seems to do the trick.
Not too sure most times it wont work on my computer and 50% of the time on my phone I have to turn off wifi. It's a bit frustrating but worth it. The flushdns also isn't a permanent thing but it works.
The way they looked at it, this meant, "I have vowed to be a good emperor for a period of 20 years." It is rather like a President of the US including a promise in his Inauguration speech vowing to be good for four years. Some coins had two dates like VOT X MVLT XX which can be read as a promise to be as good for the second ten as he was for the first. Caracalla was co-emperor at the time but used only X since he started later: For the whole, the emperors played it fast and loose with the numbers and we should not get too strict in the math shown on these coins.
I regularly have to reset my computer's DNS to something that works for Wildwinds. It rather bites to have to alter my computer solely because I have trouble accessing one website, but it isn't hard to do and trouble-free Wildwinds access is important. Here's the fix (Mac, but I'm sure you can find the appropriate location on a PC): Network > Advanced > DNS Click "+" to add IPv4 or IPv6 addresses Type 8.8.8.8 Click the "+" again Type 8.8.4.4 Click apply or OK or whatever to make the changes stick More details about the issue and its solution can be found in this Forvm thread. ... Ajax-- that's a pretty awesome $30 coin!
That coin rocks for $30-ish! I do like the "bang-for-the-buck" factor on Septimius Severus' coins. His and Gordian III's silver seem to offer some really nice examples for not too much money (Severus Alexander and Philip I, too). This is the one from my first Roman collection, ca. 2007-08. It would've cost me a similar amount (i.e., $30-something). Image is a scan, so it was nicer in hand. Here's the one from my present collection, which of course has been posted before.
Congrats on the super value @Ajax ! And rapid response is a BONUS to receive it, especially from Germany! Nice! My only SeptSev, and I know mine was part of a Bargain program... RI Septimus Severus 193-211 AR Denarius Genius Sacrificing
