I was curious if Proof Silver Eagles are "Pure" silver meaning with no alloy, or are they made from the same material and composition that the typical ASE uses? Thank you.
there the same all thats diffrent is the proof version is made with highly polished dies and stamped twice. There also checked more to ensure there is no problem with them.
Thanks guys. I was wondering because I saw "pure silver" used to describe the proof. I read that there was something like .07% copper or something in the typical AE. I was thrown by a possible difference in .999 or absolute purity. I know now.
The Gold American Eagles are different - they are 91.6% gold, 3% silver and 5.33% copper. Perhaps that is what you read about.
What I read somewhere said that the Silver Eagle was 99.93% silver and .07% copper alloy or something. It may have been 99.97 and .03, but it seems like .07 And you have to admit there is a difference between 100% silver and 99.97, albeit slight.
