I am new to coin collecting And appreciate all your help. I have a 2008 Andrew Jackson dollar coin. The edges where the mint mark is are two different colors half way up. At the middle point of the we it goes from a darker gold to a light gold. Are they supposed to look like that?
I think what you are seeing is the composition of the Presidential & Sacagawea Dollars. They are struck on planchets that have a copper core, and two outer layers of manganese. On the edge, the copper core should be in the middle, and then you should be able to see the two manganese layers on either side of the copper core. If that's not what you're talking about, let us know.

You can think of the dollar coin, like the dime, quarter and half dollar, as a sandwich of metal. The clad coins contain an inner core and outside shell that are bonded together prior to punching the blank. The color change you see is due to the different composition of the layers.
I said two layers of copper on either side of the copper core, not' two layers above' Your Dollar coin is a normal Presidential Dollar
Thank you I am sorry I misunderstood when you said side. I mad an assumption that was either top or bottom side. I also understood when the sandwich analogy was given that this is normal.
